Emily Palethorpe graduated from UNC – Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s Degree in music education, followed by UNC – Greensboro with a Master’s Degree in music education. After teaching music twelve years in both NC public and private schools, she became very interested in reading instruction, noting that many of her students could not read on grade level. In 2007, she completed training in the Orton-Gillingham approach, at that time the leading reading instruction method for students with dyslexia. In 2015, Emily was hired at Elon Elementary School in NC as an English literacy specialist, using drama and music as a means to encourage reading skills. Then, in 2021, Emily completed Reading Simplified basic training, currently considered the best approach, followed by Masters level training. She acheived Expert level certification in the Reading Simplified method in Fall 2023.
