Curriculum

Reading Simplified, developed and founded by Dr. Marnie Ginsberg, reading researcher from UNC – Chapel Hill, is the phonetic and systematic presentation of letter sounds for decoding instruction. From the very first lesson, students are sounding out and manipulating letter sounds of words, engaging in the game “Switch It” where they see, speak, and elide short vowels, consonants, digraphs, trigraghs, and consonant blends. Students progress though a tiered pathway of sound based instruction, advancing through the 12 steps with phonics focussed training. Children practice reading authentic texts, poems, rhymes, and sentences which correlate with the given sounds at the various pathway steps. Notably, it is common for students to advance grade level upon completion of the 12 step pathway.
